Maradona death trial: Morla and nephew Espósito to testify

The 24th hearing of the criminal trial over Diego Armando Maradona’s death began at the San Isidro court in Buenos Aires. Former image‑rights manager Matías Morla and Maradona’s nephew Jonathan Espósito are scheduled to give key testimony. Morla, who handled the football legend’s commercial rights from 2014 to the day of the star’s death, faces a fraud charge for alleged mismanagement of those rights alongside his brother‑in‑law Maximiliano Pomargo and other family members. Espósito lived with Maradona during the latter’s home‑care period at the San Andrés gated community in Tigre and is expected to describe the circumstances surrounding the former player’s final hours. The case also charges several medical professionals – including neuro‑surgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Díaz – with simple homicide with eventual dolo.
