Maradona's nephew describes uncle's final days during homicide trial

Jonathan Espósito, nephew of the late Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona, testified at the trial over the star’s death, saying his uncle was swollen, lacked appetite and refused to rise from bed during the last week of his life. He recounted that on the morning of 25 November 2020 Maradona got up around 10 a.m., ate breakfast in the garden and awaited psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Díaz to administer medication. About an hour later, Cosachov and Díaz entered his room, noted he did not want to get up, and shortly afterward Espósito saw Maradona’s right arm limp and called for an ambulance.

Espósito also reported asking Maradona’s primary doctor, Leopoldo Luque, to visit because the former’s condition was worsening and that a nurse’s chart entries for that day were disputed. Alongside the psychiatrist and psychologist, the prosecution has named Swiss Medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, clinical doctor Pedro Di Spagna, nurse coordinator Mariano Perroni, and nurse Ricardo Almirón among those charged with simple homicide through eventual intent.
