Maramureș County Council inaugurates first Smart Specialization Park in Baia Sprie

The Maramureș County Council has inaugurated the first Smart Specialization Park in Baia Sprie, marking a transition from public infrastructure development to private investment. Spanning approximately 30.9 hectares and divided into 11 plots, the park includes 53 million lei in infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and fiber optics. The project is funded through the North-West Regional Program 2021–2027, with the county budget covering roughly 68% of the costs. Five lots have already been conceded, with estimated private investments exceeding 29.6 million euros and the potential creation of 143 new jobs. Companies focusing on innovation and high-value technologies may access European grants of up to 2.5 million euros.

Simultaneously, the Maramureș County Council approved a budget rectification to address financial pressures across several institutions. The DGASPC Maramureș faces a deficit of approximately 24 million lei, largely due to court-ordered salary rights and associated penalties from 2022–2023. Additionally, approximately 2 million lei were allocated to Maramureș International Airport to cover operational costs and salaries, amid a monthly debt installment of about 1 million lei for modernization works. The budget update also includes funding for a road safety project involving over 200 pedestrian crossings.
