Maranhão agricultural freight rates decline amid shifting grain flows

Agricultural freight rates in Maranhão decreased in July following a period of high demand driven by the movement of soybean and corn production, according to the National Supply Company (Conab). The reduction in road transport demand follows the peak movement of these commodities in previous months.

Despite the local drop in freight costs, Brazilian exports for both commodities grew between January and July 2026. Corn exports rose 10.53% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 9.8 million tons. Soybean exports increased by 7.8%, reaching 82.9 million tons. The Northern Arc ports played a significant role, accounting for 46.12% of corn and 39.03% of soybean exports, while the Port of Santos remained a major exit point for both products.
