Maranhão climate workshop to address Super El Niño impacts
The Forum Maranhense de Meio Ambiente e Emergência Climática (FOMAEC) will host the ‘Super El Niño’ workshop on August 31 in São Luís, Maranhão. The event aims to bring together specialists, the Public Ministry, and civil society to discuss the impacts of the climate emergency in the region.
Key topics for discussion include extreme weather events, wildfires, water resources, and biodiversity. Participants will work toward proposing mitigation and adaptation strategies, including the potential creation of the Maranhense Observatory of the Climate Emergency. Professor Ronald Chaves, the workshop coordinator, emphasized the need for better public policies and direct training for local communities to act as first responders during wildfire crises.
