Brazilian regions implement Refis 2026 tax debt relief programs

Various Brazilian municipalities and the state of Maranhão have implemented or extended the Refis 2026 program, a tax recovery initiative designed to help taxpayers regularize outstanding debts through significant discounts on interest and penalties.

In Maranhão, the deadline for IPVA (vehicle tax) regularization has been extended to October 30, 2026, offering up to 100% discounts on interest and fines for lump-sum payments. Similarly, Jaguariúna has extended its municipal Refis deadline to October 31, providing up to 100% discounts for single payments and various installment options.

Várzea Grande is offering up to 80% discounts for lump-sum payments on taxes such as IPTU, ISSQN, and business licenses, with progressive discounts available for installments. In Canela, the program is entering its final month, with a deadline of September 30, offering up to 100% discounts on interest and fines. Senador Canedo has also extended its deadline to October 5, providing up to 100% discounts for immediate settlement and tiered reductions for long-term installment plans.
