Maranhão government launches São Miguel ferryboat and terminal upgrades
The Government of Maranhão has introduced several infrastructure and health improvements to the Ponta da Espera and Cujupe terminals to enhance the state's aquaviary transport system for the Baixada Maranhense region.
A key highlight is the introduction of the ferryboat São Miguel, which is scheduled to begin operations on Monday (28th). The vessel, the first of two new boats being added to the fleet, can carry 66 vehicles and 1,028 passengers. It features specialized engineering to accommodate local tidal variations, including 1,400 HP motors and larger propellers.
In addition to maritime transport, the government inaugurated a polyclinic and a dental office at the Cujupe Terminal, along with a stabilization room and an Advanced Support Unit (USA) ambulance. Further planned works include widening and extending the ramps at the Ponta da Espera Terminal to improve boarding safety and efficiency.
