Maranhão Governor Carlos Brandão launches Terminal Intermodal Gonçalves Dias in Caxias

Governor Carlos Brandão and Caxias mayor Gentil Neto attended the foundation‑stone ceremony for the Terminal Intermodal Gonçalves Dias (TIGD) on Saturday, 1 May. The privately funded hub, located beside the Caxias Industrial District, is designed to handle up to one million tonnes of grain, fertilizer and other cargo each year and will link regional highways, the Transnordestina railway and the Port of Itaqui.

Construction is currently in the earth‑moving stage, with completion targeted for April 2025. The state government will carry out terraplaning and pave a seven‑kilometre access road from BR‑316, while the municipality has cleared vegetation along the route. The terminal is expected to receive about 400 trucks daily, and 20 companies have already shown interest in locating in the adjacent industrial zone.

The project includes a training programme with Sesi, Senai and Sebrae to prepare local workers for the new jobs. Partner Alexandre Almeida stressed the need for public‑private cooperation to achieve sustainable development and positive social impact.
