Maranhão Green Party blocks Flamarion Amaral’s state assembly run

The Green Party (Partido Verde) in Brazil’s Maranhão state held its state convention and decided not to field any candidates for the state legislative assembly, effectively preventing Flamarion Amaral, brother of Imperatriz mayor Rildo Amaral (PP), from running.

The decision was announced alongside the party’s support for Orleans Brandão (MDB) for governor and Roseana Sarney (MDB) for the Senate. It also named Perla Amaral, wife of Rildo Amaral, as the first substitute for federal deputy André Fufuca (PP), limiting the Amaral family’s participation in the 2026 elections.
