Maranhão judicial train service facilitates divorce for resident

A resident of Buriticupu, José Henrique, successfully formalized his divorce through the ‘Vagão da Conciliação’ (Conciliation Wagon) project, a judicial initiative operating on the Carajás Railway. Having been separated for eight years, Henrique traveled by train specifically to utilize the service provided by the Court of Justice of Maranhão (TJMA) in partnership with Vale.

The legal process was conducted via a hybrid model: Henrique attended the hearing in person during the train journey, while his former spouse participated via videoconference from Buriticupu. The divorce was finalized and the sentence was delivered in Açailândia.

Judicial officials, including Rodrigo Costa Nina, coordinator of the Permanent Nucleus of Consensual Conflict Resolution Methods (Nupemec/TJMA), noted that the project aims to bring judicial services closer to the population by utilizing existing transport infrastructure to resolve civil conflicts efficiently.
