Maranhão political figures face campaign funding scrutiny and legal rulings

Political campaign financing and legal developments in Maranhão have highlighted significant fund allocations and judicial rulings. Márcio Jerry (PCdoB) received R$ 1,425,000.00 from the party's national direction for his federal deputy reelection campaign, representing nearly 100% of his reported revenue via the Special Campaign Financing Fund.

Other notable campaign activities include Roseana Sarney (MDB) receiving R$ 86,000.00 for her Senate bid, with contributions from family members including José Sarney and Jorge Murad. Additionally, Diogo Viana (PL) has declared support for Márcio Jerry, a move reportedly influenced by Josimar Maranhãozinho, the state president of the PL.

Separately, Josimar Maranhãozinho faces legal consequences following a Supreme Federal Court ruling. While the Prosecutor General's Office accused him of participating in a criminal organization to divert millions in parliamentary amendments, the rapporteur voted for conviction on passive corruption charges but rejected the criminal organization charge. His sentence was set at 6 years and 5 months in a semi-open regime.
