Maranhão Public Ministry debates measures to combat stadium violence

The Public Ministry of Maranhão (MPMA) held a hearing in São Luís to discuss measures to combat violence involving organized supporters of the football clubs Moto Club and Sampaio Corrêa.

Key proposals include the creation and updating of a registry for organized fan members and the implementation of facial recognition technology to improve access control at stadiums. Discussions also addressed the regulation of alcohol sales, particularly prohibiting glass containers, and the need for better structural oversight of sporting venues.

As a result of the meeting, the MPMA will request the Military Police and Fire Department to implement specialized units for sporting events. Additionally, official requests will be sent to the State Secretariat of Public Security to evaluate the creation of a dedicated police unit for match-day occurrences. Joint inspections are planned for the Castelão and Nhozinho Santos stadiums.
