Maranhão reports positive tourism season and business growth

The state of Maranhão has concluded its 2026 high tourism season with positive results. A key driver for this performance was the 2024 designation of the Lençóis Maranhenses as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. Major tourist hubs contributing to this growth include the Lençóis Maranhenses, the Historic Center of São Luís, the Alcântara Ruins, the Chapada das Mesas waterfalls, the Americas Delta, and Lagoa do Cassó.

In the city of Imperatriz, the 24th edition of the Multisectoral Business Fair (Fecoimp) took place from September 16 to 19. The event focused on electric mobility solutions and saw an increase in female participation, coordinated by the ACII Mulher branch of the local commercial and industrial association. While the tourism sector shows growth, reports indicate that some communities in tourist areas still face challenges regarding basic infrastructure.
