Marasleio School student injured by breaking glass

A student was seriously injured at the Marasleio School Complex in Athens on Friday, September 25, after falling onto an old-style glass pane during a break. The impact caused the glass to shatter into large, sharp pieces, requiring the student to receive 13 stitches at a hospital.

The incident has reignited concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of school facilities. The Athens Teachers' Association has criticized the school's windows, stating they are outdated technology and unsuitable for a school environment because they lack protective safety membranes.

Teachers noted that this is not an isolated event, citing previous safety issues at the complex over the last two years, including falling structural materials in February 2024 and a falling light fixture in December 2025. The Association is calling for immediate intervention from the Ministry of Education, the Municipality of Athens, and the private contractor responsible for the complex's renovation to install safety membranes and conduct thorough technical inspections.
