Maratea penalized in Basilicata football league

Maratea has been handed a 0-3 technical defeat by the Basilicata Regional Sports Judge regarding their 2-2 draw against Atletico Montalbano on October 18, 2026. The decision follows a violation of Promozione championship regulations, which require at least one player born in 2007 and one born in 2008 to be on the pitch for the duration of the match. During the 32nd minute of the second half, Maratea replaced a 2008-born player with a player born in 1999, leaving the team without the mandatory 'under' player.

In addition to the loss of points, the club faces a 250 euro fine. Official Giacomo Ricciardi has also received a suspension until November 4, 2026, following repeated protests. The match was marked by significant tension, including unauthorized individuals entering the pitch enclosure to insult the referee and a local supporter attempting to assault and threaten the official after the final whistle. The supporter reportedly pursued the referee in a vehicle outside the stadium, though no physical injuries occurred.
