Marathon Petroleum and MPLX report strong dividend distribution and cash‑flow growth

MPLX LP, the natural‑gas pipeline and storage master limited partnership owned by Marathon Petroleum, continued its record streak of dividend hikes, marking the 13th consecutive year of increases. The current quarterly distribution rose 12.5% to $1.0765 per unit, and the firm’s distributable cash flow (DCF) grew to $5.9 billion, supporting a payout ratio in the low‑70s percent and a potential yield approaching 8% if the distribution is raised another 10%.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation itself announced a $1.00 per‑share quarterly dividend, payable on September 10 to shareholders of record August 19. The dividend represents a 1.3% annualized yield, with a payout ratio of about 34%, comfortably covered by earnings. Analysts forecast earnings of $32.72 per share for the next year and expect the company to maintain its dividend coverage.
