Marburg Bike Protest Calls for Climate‑Friendly Traffic Policy
On Saturday, 1 August, cyclists participating in the 36th Tour de Natur rode over the B3 highway in Marburg and gathered at the Gymnasium Philippinum at 09:30. The demonstration, which attracted around 120 riders from across Germany, demanded a shift away from car‑centric traffic policies. Organisers called for an 80 km/h speed limit on the highway, the removal of oversized roads, and greater investment in public transport, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.
The Tour de Natur began on 25 July in Frankfurt, continued through Lollar, Treysa and Eisenach, and will finish in Erfurt on 8 August. The Marburg leg highlights the movement’s broader aim of promoting sustainable mobility and reducing traffic noise and emissions.
