Marc-Andre ter Stegen set for season-long loan from Barcelona to Ajax

German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who remains under contract with FC Barcelona until 2028, is poised to join Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam on a one‑year loan. Barcelona have confirmed that he will not feature regularly under coach Hansi Flick, with Joan Garcia slated as the club’s first‑choice keeper.

The transfer is being driven by Ajax coach Míchel, who previously worked with ter Stegen at Girona, and fits into Ajax’s broader recruitment push led by technical director Jordi Cruijff. After a series of injuries that curtailed his playing time and caused him to miss the 2026 World Cup, ter Stegen seeks regular matches, while Barcelona aim to reduce their surplus of goalkeepers.
