Marc Bartra returns to Dortmund for Champions League match
Real Betis defender Marc Bartra is returning to Dortmund for a Champions League fixture, marking an emotional reunion with the city where he previously played for Borussia Dortmund.
Bartra, 35, spent a year and a half with Borussia Dortmund between 2016 and 2018, making 51 official appearances. His tenure in Germany was marked by a traumatic event on April 11, 2017, when an explosive device was used in an attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus. Bartra was the only player physically injured in the attack, suffering a broken radius and wrist injuries from shrapnel, which required a four-day hospital stay.
After leaving Dortmund in 2018, Bartra played for Trabzonspor before joining Real Betis in Spain. Real Betis has had a strong start to the Champions League campaign, securing wins against OSC Lille, FC Porto, and Feyenoord Rotterdam.
