Marc Bernal: Barcelona to renegotiate contract and salary
FC Barcelona is preparing to reopen contract negotiations with midfielder Marc Bernal to increase his salary. Although the 18-year-old signed a renewal through 2029 last September, that agreement included relatively modest wages negotiated while he was still recovering from a serious knee injury involving an ACL tear and meniscus damage.
Following his successful return to fitness and his integration into Hansi Flick’s rotation, the club views his current financial terms as being out of step with his on-pitch responsibilities. Barcelona aims to align his wages with established first-team players to prevent external interest from other clubs from becoming a point of leverage.
To manage the transition, manager Hansi Flick has reportedly held one-on-one conversations with Bernal to ensure stability. While the player has expressed a desire to remain at the club, his agent, Raúl Verdú, has been involved in analyzing interest from various domestic and international clubs.
