Marc López named captain of Spanish Davis Cup team
The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has appointed Marc López as the new captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. López, a former world number three in doubles and Olympic gold medalist, will officially assume the role on January 1, 2027, serving until 2029.
He succeeds David Ferrer, who announced his decision to step down at the end of the 2026 season. Before taking full command, López will continue his current role as a technical assistant under Ferrer during the Davis Cup Final 8, scheduled to take place in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29.
López’s career includes significant achievements such as winning Roland Garros in 2016 and the ATP Finals in 2012. His appointment follows his experience as a technical assistant for the national team since the 2025 Davis Cup qualifiers.
