Marc Lüthi elected president of Swiss Ice Hockey Federation
Marc Lüthi has been elected as the new president of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) during an extraordinary general assembly. The 65-year-old, who previously served as the CEO of SC Bern for 28 years, succeeds Urs Kessler.
Lüthi's election follows a period of leadership instability, as he becomes the fourth president to hold the position within just two years. While most National League clubs supported his candidacy, the clubs Sierre and La Chaux-de-Fonds voted against him, and Bellinzona abstained.
In his first official act, Lüthi held a press conference in Fribourg, a move seen as a diplomatic gesture toward the French-speaking hockey community. He has signaled a focus on financial restructuring, stating his goal is to ensure the federation can operate with reduced financial reliance on payments from National League clubs by the end of the season. He also noted that addressing challenges within the Swiss League remains a priority.
