Marc Overmars receives emotional farewell from Antwerp supporters

Marc Overmars, the former director of football affairs at Royal Antwerp FC, received an emotional farewell from supporters at De Bosuil stadium prior to the match against Union Saint-Gilloise. Overmars, who joined the club in 2022, recently announced his immediate departure due to health concerns, citing stress and exhaustion on medical advice.

During his tenure, Overmars played a significant role in the club’s recent successes, including the 2023 double where Antwerp won both the Belgian league title and the Belgian Cup. He also oversaw the club’s Champions League campaign. In his address to the fans, he expressed gratitude for their support, referring to them as the ‘twelfth man’ and invoking the local slogan ‘bloed aan de palen’ to symbolize the club's fighting spirit.

In addition to Overmars, the supporters also honored long-time equipment manager Raymond De Witte with a large tifo, acknowledging his years of service to the club.
