Marc Skinner leaves Manchester United Women as head coach

Manchester United Women announced that head coach Marc Skinner has departed by mutual consent, ending a five‑year tenure that began in 2021. During his spell the club won its first major trophy, the 2024 Women’s FA Cup, reached three consecutive FA Cup finals and achieved a second‑place finish in the 2022‑23 Women’s Super League, securing the team’s inaugural qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League and a quarter‑final appearance.

The decision comes after United finished fourth in the most recent league campaign, missing out on European competition, and faced criticism over a limited summer transfer window that left the squad behind rivals such as Chelsea and Arsenal. Skinner had previously highlighted an investment gap compared with other top clubs. The club will now begin a search for a new manager ahead of the 2026‑27 WSL season, which starts in early September.
