Marcel Duchamp retrospective opens at MoMA in New York

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has opened the largest Marcel Duchamp retrospective ever assembled, displaying more than 300 works that span the artist’s career. Curated by Daniel Birnbaum, the show presents Duchamp’s visually striking pieces—optical puzzles, perspective games and other “visual tricks”—in a traditional chronological order, a choice the reviewer notes as both freeing and revealing of hidden connections across the oeuvre.

The exhibition runs through 22 August before traveling to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where it will be on view from 10 October to 31 January.
