Marcela Martonová resigns as chair of Energetika Slovensko supervisory board
Marcela Martonová has resigned from her position as chair of the supervisory board of Energetika Slovensko. The Ministry of Economy accepted her resignation, effective immediately.
Martonová, a cosmetician from Košice, cited the recent media attention surrounding her person as the reason for her departure. She stated her goal is to prevent further social polarization and to protect her family's privacy from unwanted interference.
The appointment had previously drawn scrutiny from the anti-corruption foundation Nadácia Zastavme korupciu. The foundation highlighted a potential conflict of interest, noting that Martonová's husband, police investigator Mikuláš Marton, had handled investigations involving Matúš Šutaj Eštok, the Minister of Interior and leader of the Hlas-SD party. Specifically, the foundation pointed to instances where the investigator declined to initiate criminal proceedings regarding the Minister's travel to Abu Dhabi.
The Ministry of Economy defended the initial nomination, asserting that Martonová met all legal requirements and that direct expertise in the energy sector is not a mandatory condition for the role under current legislation or shareholder agreements. The Ministry has not yet announced a successor.
