Marcela Tauro apologizes for controversial comment about honoring abusive parents

Argentine journalist Marcela Tauro sparked a backlash during the radio programme “El Club del Moro” on La 100 when she said that “there is no need to be angry, we should honor” parents who have abused their children. The remark, made while debating historical figures such as Christopher Columbus, was widely shared on social media and drew immediate criticism from her co‑hosts, including Anita Martínez and host Santiago del Moro, as well as public figures like designer Roberto Piazza, who called the words a “knife in the soul” of abuse victims.

Hours later Tauro appeared on the television show “Intrusos” on América TV to issue a public apology. She described the statement as “a horror” that she misspoke, emphasizing that she “obviously meant the opposite” and does not hold the view expressed. Tauro apologized directly to women and men who have suffered abuse, called for personal reflection on her trauma, and said she chose the TV platform to convey remorse more transparently.

The episode has reignited debate in Argentine media about the responsibilities of public figures when discussing sensitive topics and the speed with which remarks can spread online.
