Marcelo Bonfá opposes use of Legião Urbana music in José Dirceu campaign
Marcelo Bonfá, drummer for the band Legião Urbana, has publicly criticized the use of the song ‘Fábrica’ in José Dirceu’s campaign video for federal deputy. Bonfá stated that neither he nor the late singer Renato Russo would have authorized the use of the music for any political party or ideology.
Bonfá emphasized that the band's music transcends partisan disputes and belongs to the Brazilian people. While Dirceu expressed gratitude to Giuliano Manfredini—Renato Russo’s son—for granting the rights to use the song, the incident highlights ongoing legal tensions regarding the band's repertoire. Currently, Manfredini holds control over the works, amidst a long-standing judicial dispute between him and former band members Bonfá and Dado Villa-Lobos.
