Marcelo de Carvalho ordered to pay R$ 100,000 for racist post
The São Paulo Court of Justice has ordered Marcelo de Carvalho, the former owner of RedeTV!, to pay R$ 100,000 in collective moral damages following a social media post deemed racist.
The ruling stems from a July 14, 2025, post in which Carvalho linked crime in Europe to African and Muslim immigration. The lawsuit was brought by the civil society organization Educafro Brasil, which accused the presenter of racism and xenophobia.
In addition to the financial penalty, the court mandated that Carvalho publish a retraction on the same social media profile used for the original post. Carvalho maintains the right to appeal the decision.
