Marcelo Mayer set for San Francisco Giants debut

Infielder Marcelo Mayer is set to make his San Francisco Giants debut as a designated hitter against the Minnesota Twins. The move follows his reinstatement from the 10-day injured list.

Mayer was acquired by the Giants from the Boston Red Sox at the August trade deadline in exchange for reliever Erik Miller. His 2026 season with the Red Sox was hampered by injuries, including a bone stress issue in his left forearm and a right foot bone bruise during rehabilitation.

Mayer’s father, Enrique, expressed support for the trade, noting that the environment in Boston had become difficult for his son following struggles and injuries. During his tenure with the Red Sox, Mayer batted .220 with a .594 OPS in 70 games.
