Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa thanks Algarve medical staff

Former Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has expressed his gratitude to healthcare professionals following a medical incident in the Algarve. On August 12, 2026, he was taken to Faro Hospital after feeling unwell.

During his time at the hospital, he underwent several diagnostic tests and was monitored by the clinical team from the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS Algarve). Following a medical assessment, he was discharged later that same day. In an official statement, the former President thanked the staff at ULS Algarve and INEM for their assistance, as well as the current President of the Republic for his messages of support.
