Marchamalo celebrates 400 years of independence as a Villa
Marchamalo is celebrating the 400th anniversary of its designation as a ‘Villa’, a historical milestone that granted the municipality independence from Guadalajara. The town will hold commemorative events on October 2 and 3 to mark this administrative achievement, which allowed residents to avoid vassalage to nobility and instead answer directly to the King.
The festivities include the inauguration of a Renaissance Market in the Plaza Mayor, featuring street theater, jugglers, workshops, and various exhibitions. Local officials noted that the town's identity remains tied to this era, evidenced by historical landmarks such as the 1627 pillory and various 16th and 17th-century buildings.
