Italy experiences surge in cultural festivals and economic impact

Italy is experiencing a vibrant summer of cultural activity across various regions. In the Marche region, the cultural and creative sector is a significant economic driver, generating over 2 billion euros in added value, which represents 5.1% of the regional economy. According to CNA Marche, there are 2,691 active cultural enterprises in the area, spanning sectors such as publishing, performing arts, and museums.

Major events are driving this momentum, including the 79th Pesaro National Dramatic Art Festival at the Teatro Rossini, which will feature eight competing companies performing works ranging from classical literature to contemporary drama. Additionally, the 9th edition of the Happennino Festival is set to traverse the Marche Apennines from late August through September, featuring diverse programs in nature and pop culture.

In Castrovillari, the 40th International Folklore Summer of the Pollino Park recently concluded, bringing together traditions from Brazil, Ecuador, Georgia, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, the United States, and Italy. Meanwhile, local social initiatives are also gaining traction, such as the #lasciamolascia project in collaboration with the association ‘Le passeggiate di Agata’, which received 10,000 euros in municipal funding to promote disability inclusion and accessibility.
