Marche mayors mobilize following gender-based violence reports
Data from the Viminale Dossier for the first half of 2026 indicates that 34 victims of femicide and gender-based voluntary homicide were recorded in Italy, a decrease from the 54 cases reported during the same period in 2025. Despite this decline, Istat reports that 13.5% of female workers aged 15 to 70 have experienced sexual harassment at work.
In the Marche region, the National Observatory on Femicide ranks the area 11th among affected regions. To address the issue and foster cultural change, the itinerant talk series ‘La carica delle 35. Sindache unite contro la violenza di genere’ will resume on September 11 in Osimo.
Organized by the independent editorial brand Fall in Lov and promoted by the ‘Donne – Pari Opportunità’ Council, the initiative aims to build a network between administrations and experts by bringing the discussion of gender violence into municipal council chambers and theaters. The event in Osimo will feature the essay ‘Oltre il silenzio. Riconoscere la violenza’ by Elisabetta Pieragostini.
