Marche region begins filming “Italia Germania ‘44”

Filming has officially commenced for “Italia Germania ‘44”, a feature-length film inspired by a legendary football match held in Sarnano in April 1944. The story takes place during the Nazi-Fascist occupation of the Marche region, where German soldiers and local youths played a match to provide a brief sense of normalcy amidst the war.

The production is a regional effort by Stella Polare Films, Sydonia Production, and Subwaylab, with approximately 90% of the cast and crew hailing from the Marche region. The first shoot took place on September 28 in the Monterosso hamlet of Sassoferrato. Subsequent filming locations include Sarnano, San Ginesio, Jesi, Serra San Quirico, Montecarotto, Cupramontana, Bolognola, and the Sibillini Mountains.

The project is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Marche Region, the Marche Film Commission, and various local municipalities. The film aims to bring a historical local memory to a wider audience, focusing on the human connections and community resilience during a period of conflict.
