Marche Region establishes task force to locate new waste plant

The Marche regional government has established a technical working group to identify a site for a new waste management plant. This facility is intended to complete the regional waste cycle by increasing material and energy recovery while reducing reliance on landfills.

The proposed plant is expected to have a capacity of 370,000 tons per year, consisting of 270,000 tons of urban waste and 100,000 tons of special waste. This initiative aligns with European Union targets to reduce landfill use to 10% by 2035.

The technical group will include representatives from the five Territorial Scope Assemblies (ATA), the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Marche (Arpam), and a regional technician. The group has nine months to complete the operational phase of studies and analysis. To ensure coordination, findings will be shared with a political-institutional table including the regional assessor, provincial presidents, and the president of Anci Marche.
