Marche region implements safety measures following wolf sightings
Authorities in the Marche region of Italy are implementing measures to manage the presence of wolves near inhabited areas. Following sightings in towns such as Fano, local administrations and regional institutions are focusing on public safety and the protection of domestic animals.
UNCEM Marche, in coordination with the Marche Region and law enforcement, is promoting information campaigns for mountain municipalities to address the phenomenon of ‘confident wolves’—animals that have become accustomed to human presence. To prevent wolves from being attracted to urban centers, officials advise citizens to avoid leaving food scraps, pet food, or organic waste outdoors.
Safety recommendations for residents include keeping dogs on short leashes, securing small pets in enclosed environments at night, and using adequate fencing for livestock. The initiative aims to foster a balanced coexistence with the species, which is protected under national and European law, while minimizing risks to public and private safety.
