Marche region landscape and Adriatic coastline analysis

The Marche region in Italy is characterized by a lack of plains, with the Apennine Mountains comprising 30-40% of its territory. The landscape transitions from these rugged mountains into an extensive hilly area that covers over 50% of the region.

The Adriatic coastline stretches approximately 150 kilometers from Pesaro to the Tronto river. The coastline is primarily composed of sandy beaches that become gravelly near river mouths, though the area around Ancona and Monte Conero features rocky, deep shores and cliffs.

Orographically, the region is divided into a mountainous western zone and a sub-Apennine hilly area in the east, which serves as a transition zone between the main mountain peaks and the coast.
