Marcin Meller launches foundation to build school in Tigray

Journalist Marcin Meller has established the MeBeata Foundation to build and maintain a secondary school in the village of Maigua, located in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia. The initiative aims to support youth aged 12 to 18 following a conflict between 2020 and 2022 that resulted in approximately 500,000 casualties and the destruction of nearly 90 percent of the region's educational infrastructure.

The school will be staffed by local Tigrayan teachers with support from Polish volunteers. Beyond academic instruction, the facility will provide vocational training in fields such as construction, plumbing, medical care, hairdressing, and modern agriculture to prepare students for the local labor market. The project is supported by Rossmann.
