Marcin Romanowski: DNA found on letter sent from Tiraspol

Investigators are examining biological evidence found on a legal document sent from Tiraspol, the capital of the breakaway Transnistria region, to a Polish court. The document, which contains a request for bail, reportedly bears the DNA and fingerprints of Marcin Romanowski, a former Polish Deputy Minister of Justice who is currently wanted by Polish authorities.

While the presence of biological traces suggests Romanowski had contact with the letter, officials have not confirmed his actual presence in Transnistria. Investigators are considering the possibility that the mailing was a “red herring” operation intended to mislead authorities and hide his true location. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously noted that intelligence services believed there was a “99 percent” certainty that Romanowski was in Tiraspol.

Romanowski is sought in connection with allegations of exceeding authority and involvement in an organized criminal group. He has not appeared before the Polish justice system for several months.
