Marcin Romanowski: Court rejects motion to lift European Arrest Warrant
The Warsaw District Court has rejected a motion to lift the European Arrest Warrant for Marcin Romanowski, a former Polish Justice Minister facing 11 charges, including participation in an organized criminal group related to the Justice Fund. The court also dismissed a defense request to question Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding Romanowski's whereabouts.
Romanowski, a member of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, has applied for a safe-conduct letter (list żelazny) to allow him to respond to charges from abroad. A hearing for this request is scheduled for September 30, 2026. Romanowski claims to be in Tiraspol, in the breakaway Transnistria region, though prosecutors dispute his location and note that Moldovan authorities have not confirmed his entry into the country.
Investigations revealed that Romanowski previously attempted to secure residency in Dubai by establishing a company with the help of Przemysław Kral, head of Zondacrypto. This plan reportedly failed due to his status as a wanted individual. Romanowski's defense attorney, Bartosz Lewandowski, has denied involvement in any illegal attempts to secure residency or hide his client.
