Marcin Romanowski's institute receives 350 million forints in public funds

A journalistic investigation by the portal Átlátszó has revealed that the Hungarian-Polish Freedom Institute, led by former Polish Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski, received 350 million Hungarian forints in public funding in 2025.

The institute operates within the Alapjogokért Központ (Center for Fundamental Rights), an organization linked to the Fidesz party. Documents indicate that approximately 142 million forints may have been allocated as salaries for an undisclosed “Polish-Hungarian working group,” though the members and the specific nature of their work remain unknown.

Additional expenditures include nearly 270 million forints for “current activities,” such as organizing events, advertising, and publications. Romanowski’s own financial disclosures show he received 17.5 million forints from the Center for Fundamental Rights for his work. The institute has been noted for its critical stance toward the current Polish government.
