Marcinho VP to remain in federal prison outside Rio de Janeiro

The 8th Criminal Chamber of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice has unanimously decided to keep Marcinho VP, a prominent leader of the Comando Vermelho criminal faction, in a federal prison outside of Rio de Janeiro.

Although some of his previous sentences were extinguished in April, two active preventive arrest warrants issued by state courts remain in effect. The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro requested his continued detention in the federal system to ensure security and prevent him from re-establishing direct command channels within communities under the faction's influence.

Marcinho VP, who has been incarcerated for 30 years, is currently held at the Campo Grande Federal Prison in Mato Grosso do Sul. He was originally arrested in Porto Alegre in August 1996 and has been convicted for crimes including drug trafficking and homicide. He rose to prominence as a leader in the Complexo do Alemão area in Rio de Janeiro's North Zone.
