Marcius Melhem settles sexual harassment case with payment
Marcius Melhem, a former comedy director at TV Globo, has accepted a penal transaction to settle his final criminal case regarding sexual harassment allegations. The agreement, ratified by the court, requires Melhem to pay R$ 8,105—equivalent to five minimum wages—to the Retiro dos Artistas. While the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MP-RJ) initially proposed a donation of three minimum wages, Melhem suggested increasing the amount.
The legal mechanism used, a penal transaction, is intended for offenses of minor potential. It allows for the dismissal of the case and the extinction of punishment without a trial on the merits, meaning the agreement does not constitute a confession of guilt or a formal conviction.
Melhem became a defendant in August 2023 following formal complaints from three women who worked under his management at TV Globo. Other allegations, including those from comedian Dani Calabresa, were not included in this specific criminal action because the legal timeframe for prosecution had expired due to the statute of limitations.
