Marco Almeida seeks second term as mayor of Mangualde

Marco Almeida, the incumbent president of the Câmara Municipal de Mangualde representing Portugal's Socialist Party (PS), announced his candidacy for a second term in the upcoming municipal elections. He argued that four years is insufficient to complete the projects launched under the community framework, the war in Europe, and the pandemic. Almeida highlighted the municipality's success in securing European Union Recovery and Resilience Programme (PRR) funding, noting that Mangualde ranks among the smallest councils with the most approved PRR applications. He said the first half of his current mandate focused on preparing projects that have now attracted public and private investment, and pledged to continue these initiatives if re‑elected, emphasizing a "project that aggregates all citizens" and not just the PS base.

Almeida also mentioned ongoing negotiations within the Viseu Dão Lafões intermunicipal community that anticipate further investments, and he affirmed that the major public and private works already underway will be completed during his next term.
