Marco Arop pursues 800-metre world record in Budapest

Canadian Olympic medallist Marco Arop is among a select group of elite athletes competing for the 800-metre title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary. Arop, along with Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati and Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, is also pursuing David Rudisha’s 14-year-old world record of 1:40.91.

Arop noted the difficulty of the feat, stating that while several runners have been close in recent years, the record remains elusive due to the precise conditions required for such a performance. The Edmonton native holds a personal best of 1:41.20 and a season best of 1:41.84, expressing confidence that he has been capable of running sub-1:41 times for several years.
