Marco Battaglia withdraws from Iowa 3rd District race after medical emergency
Libertarian candidate Marco Battaglia ended his campaign for the U.S. House in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, citing a medical emergency. The Libertarian Party of Iowa released a statement saying it would respect his privacy, support his recovery, and continue to fulfill legal obligations to keep a Libertarian option on the November ballot. Party chair Stephanie Berlin noted that a nominating convention will be held to select a replacement candidate.
Earlier, Republicans supporting incumbent Rep. Zach Nunn had challenged Battaglia’s ballot eligibility over a name‑discrepancy, arguing that his legal name is Mark T. Andersen. The party defended Battaglia’s use of the name Marco Battaglia, which he has employed in prior runs for office.
