Marco Bellocchio proposed for honorary citizenship in Paola

The association Paolab has proposed granting honorary citizenship to Italian film director Marco Bellocchio in recognition of his historical connection to the city of Paola.

The proposal honors Bellocchio’s 1969 documentary, ‘Il popolo calabrese ha rialzato la testa’, which documented the social realities, poverty, and housing struggles in Paola during the late 1960s. A public event to discuss the initiative is scheduled for August 20 at the Ernesto Sabato Belvedere, featuring representatives from local institutions and political groups.
