Chihuahua leaders address electoral reforms and party unity
Political activity in Chihuahua is intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections. César Jáuregui Moreno, a candidate for the National Action Party (PAN), released a campaign spot titled ‘En Chihuahua tiene que decidir la gente’ (In Chihuahua, the people must decide). He warns against the imposition of candidates by party leadership and advocates for direct participation from militants and citizens to ensure a unified front.
In Ciudad Juárez, PAN political coordinator Marco Bonilla expressed interest in forming an opposition bloc with parties like the PRI and Movimiento Ciudadano. Bonilla also highlighted security efforts and personal contributions to assist local families facing housing damage.
Separately, Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos has appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to uphold a state electoral reform. The law allows for the annulment of elections if organized crime intervenes and restricts candidates with criminal ties from running. The reform, which was passed by the state congress with support from most parties except Morena, is scheduled for judicial review by the Supreme Court.
