Marco Croatti criticizes government delay on beach concessions

Marco Croatti, a senator from the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S), has criticized the Italian government for its failure to release the standard tender template for beach concessions. Croatti compared the government's delay to Beckett’s ‘Godot,’ stating that while everyone discusses and awaits the document, it never arrives.

He accused the administration of avoiding responsibility and prioritizing organized interests to secure votes rather than providing concrete answers to businesses, workers, and municipalities. Croatti urged local municipalities to proceed with tenders immediately without waiting for further government instructions, arguing that the regulatory framework is already sufficiently defined by recent court rulings.

The M5S representative called for future tenders to prioritize public interest, emphasizing the need for more free and equipped beaches, increased sustainability, reduced land occupation, and protections for labor and micro-entrepreneurship. He asserted that the maritime domain belongs to the community rather than private interests.
